PTI announces that Imran Khan will run for elections in three constituencies.

Imprisoned founder of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), Imran Khan, is set to participate in the upcoming general elections on February 8, according to an announcement from his party on Wednesday. PTI Senator Ali Zafar, speaking outside Adiala jail in Rawalpindi, mentioned that the Islamabad High Court (IHC) is expected to deliver its verdict on the Toshakhana case soon, given the issuance of the election schedule.

Earlier, the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) had disqualified Imran Khan from holding public office for five years after the Toshakhana case verdict on August 8, citing "corrupt practices under Section 167 of the Elections Act, 2017."

Senator Ali Zafar expressed the party's anticipation of Imran Khan contesting from at least three constituencies and emphasized their hope for a swift resolution from the IHC on the Toshakhana case.

He urged PTI workers to submit their nomination papers for the upcoming elections, with priority given to those who have faced challenges and made sacrifices for the party.

Barrister Gohar, the PTI chief, stated that Imran Khan would run in the Lahore, Islamabad, and Mianwali constituencies. He opposed the demand from top lawyers' bodies for the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Sikander Sultan Raja, clarifying that such a demand did not come from the PTI.

Barrister Gohar asserted that the final decision on ticket allocation would be made by the incarcerated PTI founder. He alleged that obstacles were being created for their candidates, citing an incident where nomination papers were allegedly taken from Shah Mahmood Qureshi's secretary in Adiala jail. He warned that preventing their candidates from participating in the elections could lead to disturbances in law and order. Additionally, he called on the election commission and Chief Justice Qazi Faez Isa to ensure a fair and free electoral process in the country.
