A container ship heading to Pakistan was assaulted by Houthi forces in the Red Sea.

MSC Mediterranean Shipping Company has verified the assault on its ship en route to Karachi port from King Abdullah Port, Saudi Arabia, targeted by Yemen's Houthi militia with a missile. The rebels have acknowledged their responsibility for the attack.

The company reported that the ship's crew remained unharmed during the Tuesday incident. The crew promptly informed a nearby coalition naval warship about the assault.

Yahya Sarea, the Houthi military spokesperson, stated that the group targeted the vessel after unsuccessful attempts to communicate with the crew. Sarea also took responsibility for an attempted attack on Eilat and other areas in Israel, referring to them as occupied Palestine.

In response to Houthi aggression, the UN Central Command disclosed that it successfully intercepted 12 drones, three anti-ship ballistic missiles, and two cruise missiles in the Red Sea.

Since October, the Houthis have been targeting commercial ships they allege have ties with Israel or are sailing in support of it amid the Gaza conflict. They have pledged to persist with these attacks until Israel ceases its aggression against Gaza.

The repeated assaults have led several shipping companies to suspend operations through the Red Sea, opting for longer routes to ensure safety.
