Pakistan has urged the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) to conduct a comprehensive investigation into how the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) acquired advanced military equipment.
Ambassador Munir Akram, the Permanent Representative of Pakistan to the United Nations, made the demand during a UNAMA briefing on Afghanistan. He emphasized the threat posed by the TTP and its offshoots through organized cross-border terrorist attacks into Pakistan, resulting in significant losses and damage.
Akram called for a thorough investigation to determine how the TTP, a listed terrorist organization, obtained advanced military equipment and urged the United Nations to identify ways to retrieve such weapons.
Additionally, he highlighted stability in Afghanistan's economy but stressed that engagement with the Afghan interim government should address core concerns of the international community, emphasizing the presence of terrorist groups under the protection of the Afghan government.
Akram also expressed concerns about Afghan refugees in Pakistan and called for cooperation with the UNHCR to facilitate their early repatriation.
