Rockstar Isn’t Making Bully 2 — So Fans Are Building Their Own Online Version

It’s been nearly two decades since Bully first captured the imagination of gamers with its rebellious charm and open-world high school chaos. But as hopes for Bully 2 continue to fade, a passionate group of fans is stepping in to fill the void — creating a GTA Online–inspired multiplayer mode that reimagines the classic Rockstar title for a new era.

The Dream That Rockstar Left Behind

Rockstar Games co-founder Dan Houser recently revealed that Bully 2 never made it past the planning stages due to “bandwidth issues” — simply put, the studio had too many big projects and not enough time. With the success of Grand Theft Auto V and the monumental effort behind Red Dead Redemption 2, Bully 2 became one of those great “what could have been” stories in gaming.

But for loyal fans, that explanation wasn’t good enough. Instead of waiting for Rockstar to revisit the franchise, they decided to build their own version.

Introducing Bully Online — The Fan-Made Revival

The unofficial project, titled Bully Online, is being developed by a dedicated modding team led by YouTuber SWEGTA, a long-time Bully content creator and community leader.

This fan-made mode transforms the single-player classic into a living online world, much like GTA Online. Players can:

  • Explore the open world of Bullworth in free roam

  • Take part in mini-games, races, and schoolyard challenges

  • Engage in roleplay elements like jobs, money-making, and property ownership

  • Participate in chaotic “fun modes” such as shopping cart races or “rat FPS” mayhem

Early access for supporters is planned for December 2025, with a wider public release expected in 2026.

A Love Letter to a Forgotten Classic

For many, Bully represents Rockstar’s most unique experiment — a coming-of-age story set in a high school world that mixed comedy, mischief, and heartfelt storytelling. With Bully Online, fans are keeping that legacy alive, building a multiplayer playground filled with creativity, nostalgia, and community spirit.

“It’s not just about remaking Bully,” one developer said in a teaser video. “It’s about giving players a chance to live in that world again — together.”

Legal Gray Area — But Rockstar Seems Silent

While Bully Online is gaining hype, it’s important to note that this is a fan-made project, not an official Rockstar title. The studio and its parent company, Take-Two Interactive, are known for their strict stance on copyright and modding. So far, however, Rockstar hasn’t made any public statements about the mod — a hopeful sign for fans eager to see it continue.

The Bigger Picture

The excitement around Bully Online highlights a broader trend in gaming: fans reviving classic titles when studios don’t. From GTA RP servers to Half-Life remakes, communities are increasingly taking ownership of the games they love.

And while a true Bully 2 might never happen, this ambitious fan project shows that the spirit of Bullworth Academy is far from dead.
