The indictment of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chairman and former party leaders Asad Umar and Fawad Chaudhry in the ECP contempt case faced another delay as the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) deferred proceedings once again.
Former Prime Minister and ministers Fawad Chaudhry and Asad Umar were absent from the ECP hearing, with their lawyer and the legal representative of the PTI chairman citing commitments in crucial Supreme Court cases.
The ECP, which had issued notices and summons for the indictment proceedings, discussed the prospect of conducting the hearing in jail due to the non-attendance. The Interior Secretary, representing Imran Khan, submitted a written report explaining the absence.
The ECP emphasized its constitutional autonomy and decided to issue an order on the matter. The hearing is adjourned until December 6, awaiting further developments.
