Babar Azam resigns as captain of the Pakistan cricket team following a disappointing performance in the Cricket World Cup.
Shaheen Afridi is now the captain for T20, while Shan Masood takes on the role of Test captain, succeeding Babar Azam.

Following Pakistan's early exit from the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023, Babar Azam has resigned from his position as the team captain, as per his recent statement. Having led the team in all three formats since October 2019, Babar guided them to the top spot in the ICC one-day international (ODI) rankings in May.
The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has appointed opening batter Shan Masood as the new Test captain, while pacer Shaheen Afridi will assume the role of Twenty20 (T20) captain. Pakistan's rankings suffered, slipping from the top spot after a fourth-place finish in the Asia Cup and a fifth-place finish in the World Cup.
In a statement on X, formerly known as Twitter, the 29-year-old Babar Azam expressed the difficulty of his decision but deemed it the right time. He affirmed his commitment to continue representing Pakistan as a player across all three formats and pledged to support the new captain and the team with his experience and dedication.
