The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) reveals the panel responsible for selecting the national cricket team.

The PCB has officially affirmed the appointment of former Pakistan cricket players Kamran Akmal, Rao Iftikhar Anjum, and Salman Butt as consultant members reporting to chief selector Wahab Riaz. Effective immediately, they have assumed their roles in the selection panel, and their initial task involves contributing to the decision-making process for the upcoming five-match T20I series against New Zealand, scheduled to commence on January 12, 2024, following the conclusion of the Test tour to Australia.

Beyond their involvement in selection duties, these consultant members may be assigned additional responsibilities, including the facilitation of skills camps. Kamran Akmal, boasting a 15-year career from 2002 to 2017, brings substantial experience, having played 53 Tests, 157 ODIs, and 58 T20Is. As a former wicketkeeper-batter, he accumulated 6,871 runs across formats and secured 453 dismissals behind the stumps. Akmal was also a crucial member of the Pakistan team that clinched the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup in 2009 at Lord’s.

Rao Iftikhar Anjum, with a cricket career spanning from 2004 to 2010, participated in one Test, 62 ODIs, and two T20Is, amassing a total of 78 international wickets. An integral part of the T20 World Cup-winning squad in 2009, Anjum adds his wealth of experience to the selection panel.

Former Test captain Salman Butt, with representation in 33 Tests, 78 ODIs, and 24 T20Is, boasts 5,209 runs across the three formats, featuring 11 international centuries. A member of the victorious T20 World Cup squad in 2009, Butt's inclusion in the consultant role further enhances the expertise of the selection panel.
