A light rain in Lahore has dispelled the smog, causing the city's temperature to drop to 16 degrees Celsius.
Various parts of Lahore experienced mild rainfall on Thursday morning, leading to a further reduction in temperature and effectively dispersing the dense smog in the atmosphere.
Over the preceding months, Lahore, the capital of Punjab, had been shrouded in thick smog, significantly deteriorating the city's air quality and causing widespread health concerns across all age groups. This surge in pollution levels had positioned Lahore as the leading contender for the title of the world's most polluted cities.
However, a transformative development occurred on Thursday morning when light drizzle graced various areas of Lahore, including Johar Town, Bund Road, Gulberg, Township, and Model Town. This rainfall led to a substantial decrease in temperatures, with the mercury level in the city plummeting to 16 degrees Celsius, accompanied by a moisture level of 76%.
Consequently, the air quality index in Lahore exhibited a remarkable improvement, registering at 164 shortly before noon. This shift in weather conditions also resulted in Lahore sliding down the list of the world's most polluted cities, transitioning from its longstanding position at No. 1 to a relatively improved ranking at No. 6.
Beyond Lahore, reports indicated light drizzle in Shakargarh, Azad Jammu and Kashmir, while Burewala, Dunyapur, and Liaquatpur experienced heavy fog, causing disruptions in traffic flow.
