PML-N legal representatives prepare for potential objections as the ECP initiates the scrutiny of Nawaz's nomination documents.
Lawyers from PTI and PPP collaborate on strategies to contest the nomination of PML-N leader based on a previous Supreme Court decision.

- Nawaz intends to participate in elections from Lahore and Mansehra constituencies.
- Lawyers representing PTI and PPP are considering the possibility of contesting the nomination of the PML-N leader.
- The Supreme Court has previously rendered a verdict on the lifetime disqualification of the PML-N leader.
The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) is scheduled to commence the scrutiny of the nomination papers submitted by Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader Nawaz Sharif on Tuesday. In anticipation of potential objections, the PML-N's legal team is prepared to address any challenges that may arise, particularly from lawyers associated with the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP). These lawyers have strategized to contest the nomination papers by invoking the Supreme Court's unanimous verdict on April 12, 2018, which declared that disqualification under Article 62 (1)(f) of the Constitution is a lifetime ban.
Simultaneously, insider sources indicate that the PML-N is contemplating challenging the nomination papers of PTI founder Imran Khan later in the week. This move is in response to the ECP's declaration disqualifying Imran Khan from participating in polls for five years under the relevant constitutional article.
Nawaz Sharif, who returned to Pakistan after a four-year self-imposed exile, aims to secure a fourth term as the country's chief executive. Despite having his sentences in the Avenfield and Al Azizia references overturned by the Islamabad High Court, Nawaz still faces a hurdle with the lifetime ban on holding public office, necessitating its removal for his eligibility to contest the upcoming elections.
In a broader context, the ECP has received a substantial number of nomination papers, totaling 28,626, from candidates nationwide seeking to participate in the polls scheduled for February 8, 2024. The ongoing scrutiny process is set to conclude on December 30, with appeals against acceptance or rejection of nomination papers accepted until January 3. Decisions on these appeals are expected by January 10. The final list of candidates will be issued on January 11, and withdrawals can occur until January 12, preceding the ECP's allocation of electoral symbols on January 13.
