Pakistan and the United States have identified counter-terrorism operations and defense collaboration as pivotal areas of cooperation during the inaugural visit of Chief of Army Staff General Syed Asim Munir to the U.S., as reported by the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) on Friday.

According to the military's media wing, both nations affirmed their commitment to enhance interaction and explore opportunities to broaden the scope of mutually beneficial engagements. The visit coincides with a surge in terrorist attacks, resulting in the loss of nearly 30 security personnel in separate incidents.

Throughout his visit, General Munir held meetings with key U.S. government and military officials, including Secretary of State Antony J Blinken, Secretary of Defense General (retired) Lloyd J Austin, Under Secretary of State Victoria Nuland, Deputy National Security Adviser Jonathan Finer, and Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff General Charles Q Brown.

Discussions encompassed bilateral interests, global and regional security matters, and ongoing conflicts. Both sides committed to sustaining engagement to explore potential avenues for bilateral collaboration in pursuit of shared interests, according to the ISPR.

The statement highlighted the COAS's emphasis on understanding each other's perspectives on regional security issues, particularly underscoring the importance of resolving the Kashmir Issue in accordance with international law and relevant UNSC resolutions.

During interactions with the overseas Pakistani community at a reception hosted by the Embassy of Pakistan, General Munir commended the positive role played by the community in contributing to the country's progress and development. He encouraged overseas Pakistanis to invest in the country through the Special Investment Facilitation Council (SIFC), citing its success in various dimensions.

Dispelling rumors, the COAS noted that the U.S. is Pakistan's largest export market, constituting 21.5% of the country's total exports. He praised the Pakistani diaspora as ambassadors contributing significantly to Pakistan in various domains.

The ISPR reported that the Pakistani community expressed pride in the role and contributions of the Pakistan Army toward the well-being of the country. Additionally, General Munir met with Tanweer Ahmed, who made a generous donation to the National University of Sciences and Technology (NUST) for IT development in Pakistan.
