The United States vehemently condemns the terrorist attack in Dera Ismail Khan.

On Wednesday, United States Secretary of State Antony Blinken expressed solidarity with Pakistan following a terrorist attack in Dera Ismail Khan that claimed the lives of 23 military personnel. Blinken strongly condemned the attack on a security post in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, stating that the US stands with the people of Pakistan to ensure the perpetrators are brought to justice. He also offered condolences to the victims' families.

The Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) reported that six terrorists attacked a security forces' check post, and despite the attempt being thwarted, the terrorists resorted to ramming an explosive-laden vehicle into the post, followed by a suicide bombing. The resulting blasts caused the collapse of the building, leading to 23 soldiers losing their lives, while all six terrorists were neutralized. The Tehreek-e-Jihad Pakistan (TJP) claimed responsibility for the attack, a group that emerged earlier in the year.

The US had recently expressed support for Pakistan in the face of renewed threats from the banned Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP). The US special representative for Afghanistan, Tom West, visited Pakistan and held talks with key officials, acknowledging the serious threat posed by the TTP to Pakistan. The US assured its full support to Pakistan in dealing with the TTP threat. These statements from the US come as Chief of Army Staff General Syed Asim Munir is on his maiden visit to the US, scheduled to meet senior military and government officials.
